Nigerian singer Raoul Njeng-Njeng, popularly known as Skales, has revealed that his musical breakthrough was the result of a prayer he made at the Shiloh programme of the Living Faith Church (Winners’ Chapel) in 2013.
At the time, Skales said he was facing a difficult period in his career after the expiration of his contract with Banky W’s Empire Mates Entertainment (EME). According to him, things turned around after fellow artist Timaya encouraged him to attend Shiloh, where he poured out his request to God.
The singer explained that participants at the programme were instructed to write down seven things they wanted God to do for them. In his case, he wrote the same request seven times: that God should give him a global hit song.
Not long after, Skales recorded and released his chart-topping single “Shake Body” in 2014, a track he now regards as the direct fulfilment of that prayer.
The song has continued to make waves years later, recently gaining renewed international attention after Barcelona’s teenage football sensation Lamine Yamal and his teammates were seen dancing to it.
Sharing his testimony on his X (formerly Twitter) account, Skales wrote:
“In 2013 @timayatimaya took me to Shiloh and we were told to write down 7 things we are praying for. I wrote ‘a song that will take me to the ends of the world’ seven times. Fast forward till today, He gave me a divine, unending song. When they think it’s over, another thing pops up about this damn song. Lord Jesus, thank you.”
