Wolverhampton Wanderers are closing in on a major attacking reinforcement after reaching an agreement in principle to sign Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare from Belgian club Genk for €27 million.
The 23-year-old striker is set to undergo his medical today, August 30, in what will be one of Wolves’ most notable signings of the summer.
The news was first confirmed by transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who revealed late Friday that both clubs had finalized terms. “EXCLUSIVE: Wolves agree deal in principle to sign Tolu Arokodare as new striker from Genk, here we go! €27m fee agreed with Genk tonight and medical booked on Saturday,” he posted on X.
Arokodare rose to prominence during the 2023/24 Belgian Pro League season, where he emerged as the league’s top scorer with 23 goals and seven assists in 45 matches. His clinical finishing and physical presence earned him widespread recognition, drawing interest from top European clubs.
AC Milan reportedly considered him as a backup option after failing in their pursuit of Sporting CP’s Conrad Harder, but Wolves moved swiftly to complete the deal.
Genk’s sporting director, Dimitri De Condé, had already hinted at the striker’s likely departure earlier this month, stating that his exit was “99 per cent certain” and that he was “very well in the market and ready to take the next step.”
Born in Lagos, Nigeria, Arokodare began his professional career in Latvia before playing in France and later establishing himself in Belgium. However, amid speculation surrounding his future this season, he has largely been used as a substitute, featuring in just five games.
The move to the Premier League is expected to give Wolves a new dimension in attack and provide Arokodare with the platform to showcase his talent on one of football’s biggest stages.
