The Super Eagles have officially opened camp in Uyo as preparations intensify for their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
Team captain William Troost-Ekong, defender Bruno Onyemaechi, and goalkeeper Amas Obasogie were the first players to arrive on Monday, September 1, checking into the Four Points by Sheraton Hotel. Troost-Ekong and Obasogie arrived together, while Onyemaechi joined them later in the day.
More of the 23 invited players, selected by head coach Eric Chelle, are expected in camp before the first official training session scheduled for Tuesday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium practice pitch.
Meanwhile, Nigeria’s opponents, Rwanda, are expected to land later in the week. According to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), an advance official will touch down in Lagos on Monday, while the full squad will arrive on Tuesday aboard a Rwanda Airlines flight before heading to Uyo the same evening.
Group H Standings
The stakes are high in Group H, where South Africa leads with 13 points, though FIFA is yet to rule on their case involving an ineligible player in their March victory over Lesotho.
