The camp of Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that the forthcoming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention scheduled for November 15–16, 2025, in Ibadan will go ahead as planned, describing it as a “done deal” that no one can stop.
The statement comes in response to loyalists of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, who, under the banner of Eminent Leaders and Concerned Stakeholders of the PDP, had warned that the convention would be “invalid” if certain conditions were not met.
The Wike camp, while expressing satisfaction with the broader zoning arrangement approved by the PDP National Executive Committee (NEC), strongly opposed any attempt at micro-zoning. They insisted that the office of the National Chairman must remain in the North-Central, in line with the formula adopted at the party’s 2021 convention.
However, reacting on Tuesday, the Oyo PDP Publicity Secretary, Micheal Ogunsina, dismissed Wike’s group as inconsequential and aligned firmly with the party’s national leadership.
“The PDP has dared Nyesom Wike to do what he can do. There is no forever champion anywhere. How did those before him end? The November 15 and 16 convention in Ibadan is a done deal. No force can stop it,” Ogunsina declared.
He further maintained that the convention would usher in a new leadership team that would reposition the PDP ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“New leaders will emerge from the convention to set the party on the right footing; all satanic infiltrations will be sent packing, and PDP will be set free,” he added.
