Nollywood actress Wumi Toriola has been hospitalised after experiencing health complications linked to intense online criticism.
The backlash followed her response to comments made by veteran actor and director Afeez Owo, husband of actress Mide Martins, who recently spoke about her character in a movie during an interview. Toriola publicly disagreed with his remarks, a move that triggered heated reactions from social media users and fans who sided with Owo.
On Thursday morning, the actress revealed that the pressure from the online trolling had affected her health, forcing her into hospital care. Sharing a photo from her hospital bed, she admitted the situation was tied to the stress of the internet attacks.
“Internet dragging and ICU are siblings. I have heard you all, will do better next time. Wish me quick recovery,” she wrote.
The incident follows Owo’s disclosure in a YouTube podcast, Behind The Fame – African List, where he explained that his relationship with Toriola had grown distant compared to their earlier years of close collaboration on scripts and movie productions.
Toriola, in her earlier reaction, had openly criticized the senior actor, saying she still respected him despite his “unfortunate behaviours.”
The actress has now assured fans that she would handle such issues differently moving forward, while requesting their prayers for her recovery.
