The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly criticised President Bola Tinubu for his frequent foreign trips, describing them as insensitive and a waste of taxpayers’ money.
This came after the Presidency announced on Thursday that Tinubu would be embarking on a 10-day vacation in Europe, according to his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
Reacting in an interview with Punch, PDP Deputy Youth Leader, Timothy Osadolor, accused the President of abandoning Nigeria’s health system in favour of medical tourism abroad.
Osadolor argued that Tinubu’s actions demonstrate a lack of confidence in Nigeria’s health facilities, particularly the Aso Rock Clinic, which receives billions of naira in budgetary allocations annually.
“We have never heard that the President went to the Aso Rock Villa Clinic to take a check-up or an injection. Instead, what we always hear is that he has jetted to France, the U.S., or the U.K. for treatment. This is highly insensitive to the plight of Nigerians whose taxes fund this medical tourism,” Osadolor said.
He further lamented the huge sums being spent on the President’s trips, including estacodes, travel expenses, and hospital charges abroad, while local health facilities remain underdeveloped.
Osadolor urged Tinubu to refrain from seeking re-election in 2027, stressing that his administration has failed to deliver significant improvements in the health sector after more than two years in office.
“If this government cannot provide affordable healthcare and security, it should apologise to Nigerians and admit its incapacity. Alternatively, Nigerians themselves must realise that this administration is not fit to govern and should vote it out at the next elections,” he declared.
The PDP chieftain concluded by calling on Nigerians to reject both Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the next general elections, insisting that the country deserves a more credible alternative.
