Lagos Police Refute Allegations of Partisan Politics

The Lagos State Police Command has dismissed claims linking its officers to partisan politics, describing the allegations as false, misleading, and harmful to its reputation.

Deputy spokesperson of the command, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, issued the clarification in a statement on Saturday in Lagos. He explained that police personnel were not aligned with any political party, stressing that suggestions to the contrary were baseless.

Oluseyi revealed that joint police teams, including conventional officers, tactical squads, and anti-riot units, were deployed on September 4 to patrol Alimosho Local Government Area and other parts of Lagos.

According to him, the deployment was solely to prevent crime, ensure public safety, and maintain peace. He added that no political party or individual had lodged any complaint at police stations in Alimosho or elsewhere in the state regarding political attacks or reprisals.

“The allegations by a section of a political party that our personnel support one party against another are false, misleading, and a disservice,” Oluseyi said, noting that the deployed teams had conducted themselves professionally and courteously.

He further stated that Commissioner of Police, Olohundare Jimoh, had reaffirmed the command’s neutrality and constitutional duty to enforce laws, safeguard lives and property, and preserve peace. Jimoh urged political stakeholders and residents to present genuine complaints to the police instead of spreading misinformation or engaging in blackmail.
