Armed robbers carried out a daring daylight attack in Minna, Niger State, on Monday, carting away about ₦8 million belonging to a petrol dealer.
The incident occurred near Minna City Gate, just a few metres from the dealer’s filling station, as he was heading to the bank to deposit weekend sales.
Eyewitnesses said the dealer, who had packed the money in a sack inside his Mercedes-Benz, was ambushed by four gunmen in a Toyota Corolla. The attackers blocked his vehicle, forced him to stop at gunpoint, and stole the money.
According to one eyewitness, panic broke out when the suspects fired gunshots into the air before speeding off. Passers-by reportedly ran for safety, while others shouted for help as the robbers fled.
Confirming the incident, Niger State Commissioner of Police, Adam Elleman, ordered a manhunt for the suspects. Police spokesperson, DSP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the robbers intercepted the victim’s car around Tunga Market and escaped with the money.
He added that the Commissioner has directed forensic investigation into the case and urged the victim to file a formal complaint.
The stolen cash was said to be proceeds from sales between Friday and Monday morning. As of the time of reporting, no arrests had been made, but police assured that efforts were ongoing to track down the culprits.
