Chairman of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) Special Committee on Examination Infractions, Jake Epelle, has raised alarm that Nigeria’s education sector is in serious trouble.
Speaking during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television, Epelle reacted to the widespread examination fraud recently uncovered by JAMB.
According to JAMB’s findings, 4,251 cases of “finger blending” and 190 cases of AI-assisted impersonation through image morphing were detected during investigations into the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
Epelle cautioned that unless urgent reforms are introduced, the credibility of the nation’s education system may suffer further collapse.
“Exam fraud uncovered by JAMB shows that Nigeria’s education sector is in trouble. If left unchecked, examination malpractice will continue to erode merit, undermine public trust, and destroy the very foundation of Nigeria’s education and human capital development,” he warned.
