A former Chief of Staff to Governor Seyi Makinde and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Oyo State, Bisi Ilaka, has formally resigned his membership of the party.
Ilaka announced his decision in a resignation letter dated Tuesday, February 10, 2026.
In the letter addressed to “The Chairman, Ward 5, Oyo East LGA” and titled “Resignation of Party Membership,” Ilaka expressed appreciation for the opportunities he enjoyed within the PDP.
“It is with utmost humility that I tender my resignation of membership from the PDP. I am eternally grateful for the opportunities afforded to me by the party and the unalloyed support given to me over the years. Till we meet again,” he said.
Ilaka’s political profile includes his appointment as Makinde’s first Chief of Staff on May 29, 2019, immediately after the governor’s inauguration. He served in that capacity until 2021, when he was succeeded by Segun Ogunwuyi in July of that year. Following the 2023 elections, Ogunwuyi was reappointed for a second term.
Ilaka’s resignation follows the exit of another prominent PDP figure, former Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Senator Agboola Ayoola, popularly known as Alleluyah.
Ayoola resigned from the party in October 2025, ending a long association with the PDP. His resignation letter was dated Friday, October 10, 2025.
The Itesiwaju Local Government Area politician has a lengthy record of public service, having served as Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs under former governors Rashidi Ladoja and the late Adebayo Alao‑Akala between 2003 and 2011. He was also the only PDP senator elected in the South‑West from 2011 to 2015.
