2027: Peter Obi Formally Declares For ADC, Reveals Next Action

Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has officially announced his intention to run in the 2027 presidential election under the platform of the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Obi made the declaration during a political gathering held in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he addressed supporters on his political future and the reasons behind his departure from the Labour Party (LP).

Why He Left Labour Party

Speaking at the event, Obi said his decision to exit LP followed information he received suggesting that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) might not recognise the party’s leadership structure if he remained a member.

According to him, there were also indications of moves aimed at preventing his participation in the next presidential race.

He stated that the situation forced him to seek an alternative political platform to ensure his candidacy and avoid uncertainties that could jeopardise his chances of contesting.

“I Will Contest Regardless” — Obi

Obi told supporters that he remained determined to run for office regardless of any political or institutional challenges placed before him.

He assured the gathering that he would participate in the election wherever and however it is conducted, adding that safeguarding the integrity of the electoral process—particularly the proper transmission of results—would be a major priority.

Renewed Call for Electoral Transparency

In a follow-up message shared via his verified account on X, the former governor reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that every Nigerian vote counts in the 2027 polls.

He emphasised the need for credible elections, transparency in result management, and reforms that would strengthen public trust in the democratic process.

Political Realignments Ahead of 2027

Obi’s move signals an early wave of political realignments ahead of the next general election, as parties begin repositioning, forming alliances, and attracting influential figures to strengthen their chances.

Analysts say the development could reshape the opposition landscape, with ADC expected to gain increased national attention following Obi’s entry into its ranks.
