The Member representing Isuikwuato/Umunneochi Federal Constituency in Abia State, Hon. Amobi Ogah, has publicly declared his unwavering support for Governor Alex Otti, dismissing his suspension by the Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party (LP) as irrelevant and politically motivated.
Ogah made this known in a statement on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, shortly after the LP faction, led by Abure, announced his suspension along with other party members over alleged anti-party activities.
“I want to make it clear — the so-called suspension means absolutely nothing to me. I am a mandate of the people, and my commitment to Governor Alex Otti and his transformational agenda in Abia remains unshakable,” Ogah stated emphatically.
He went on to describe Governor Otti as “the best thing that has happened to Abia State in decades,” adding that his full support for the governor and his progressive policies remains intact.
‘I Stand With Otti’: Ogah Urges Constituents to Remain Calm
Hon. Ogah used the opportunity to reassure his constituents that their mandate remains his top priority. He urged them to disregard the political theatrics and remain focused on the development agenda already underway in Abia under Governor Otti’s leadership.
“No amount of intimidation can stop the will of the people. I am focused on delivering results for those who elected me. My loyalty lies with the people and the progress we are making together,” Ogah declared.
Governor Otti Fires Back at Abure, Calls for His Arrest
Meanwhile, Abia State Governor Alex Otti has also dismissed his suspension from the Labour Party by the Abure faction, labeling it a desperate stunt and a joke taken too far. In a strongly worded statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Ferdinand Ekeoma, Otti described Julius Abure as “a clown in desperate search of a crown.”
“The Supreme Court of Nigeria has unequivocally affirmed that Julius Abure is no longer the National Chairman of the Labour Party. His continued impersonation is not only illegal but also an affront to the rule of law,” the statement read.
The governor accused Abure of attempting to divert attention from serious allegations levelled against him, including financial misappropriation, impersonation, and anti-party activities.
Legal Backing Against Abure’s Chairmanship Claim
Governor Otti’s media team emphasized that the Supreme Court’s judgment, in alignment with the Labour Party’s constitution, led to the formation of a new National Caretaker Committee chaired by Senator Nenadi Usman. This development, they argue, stripped Abure of any legal or moral authority to act on behalf of the Labour Party.
The statement further clarified that just hours before Abure’s press release, he had been summoned to appear before the committee to answer to charges of misconduct — a move Otti’s camp believes triggered Abure’s retaliatory action.
Otti Urges Police, INEC to Act
Governor Otti called on the Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, to swiftly arrest Julius Abure for impersonation, asserting that his actions undermine democratic integrity. He also urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enforce the Supreme Court ruling by officially recognizing the Nenadi Usman-led Caretaker Committee.
“It is crucial for our democracy and institutions that INEC fully implements the Supreme Court’s verdict to uphold the sanctity of our judicial system and prevent further confusion within the party,” Otti’s statement concluded.
