Kiddwaya Responds to Criticism Over Fundraising Appeal for Benue Victims

Following reports that suspected herdsmen killed over 200 people in Yelewata community, Benue State, last weekend, Kiddwaya, through his foundation, appealed to Nigerians for financial donations to support the victims.

However, the request sparked public backlash, with many criticizing the move, saying it was insensitive given Kiddwaya’s affluent background.

Kiddwaya’s public request for financial support drew criticism, largely due to the contrast between his lavish lifestyle on social media and the nature of the appeal. The backlash prompted him to swiftly delete the post from X (formerly Twitter).

Responding to the ongoing criticism, Kiddwaya said,

“I am happy with the attention that I am getting, because it shines the light on how important the Benue crisis is. So I thank you all. However, the money donated will be used to help some of the families affected — to provide shelter, clothing, food, and medicine.

“So, please email us if you are affected, and we will do our best to assist with your urgent needs,” he added.
