The Nigerian government has pledged to settle all outstanding payments owed to contractors who have completed projects for Federal Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs)
The Office of the Accountant General of the Federation (OAGF) made this commitment in a statement released on Wednesday in Abuja by its spokesperson, Bawa Mokwa.
The OAGF emphasized that the Federal Government has established clear guidelines for awarding and executing contracts, adding that payments will not be made for contracts that bypass due process or are not carried out in line with approved specifications.
The OAGF stated that the government maintains records of contracts carried out by MDAs and ensures careful verification before making payments, to guarantee value for money. “Efforts are underway to settle payments for contracts that were properly awarded and completed in line with specifications,” the office said.
This development follows a warning issued on Tuesday by a Nigerian senator, who raised concerns over the government’s failure to pay contractors since 2024.
