A commercial tricycle operator in Aba, Abia State, has earned widespread praise for his honesty after returning ₦4 million that a female passenger mistakenly left behind in his tricycle.
The rider, identified as Lucky Okoro, shared the story on his Facebook page on Thursday. He explained that the passenger, a Cameroonian woman, boarded his tricycle from Aba Main Park to Ariaria Market but accidentally left behind a bag containing the large sum of money.
Okoro said he initially returned to the park to locate her but couldn’t find her. Eventually, he spotted her near a junction close to Ariaria Market, visibly distressed and in tears, appearing on the verge of a breakdown.
“I called her, wiped her tears, returned the money, and took her to a hotel where she paid for a room. I advised her to rest there and continue her journey the next day. She’s from Cameroon, not even a Nigerian, let alone an Aba native,” Okoro wrote.
In viral videos from the scene, the woman was seen praying fervently for Okoro while holding onto the bundles of cash, as onlookers praised the tricycle rider for his exceptional honesty.
Though ridiculed by some fellow riders who called him a “mugu” for returning the money, Okoro expressed no regrets, stating he was proud of his decision.
Thank you, Jehovah, I found her. Some of my fellow Keke riders called me a ‘mugun,’ but I’m not. I’m proud of what I did,” Okoro wrote, identifying himself as a Jehovah’s Witness from Umuomei in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State.He also expressed gratitude to God for giving him the chance to do what he called “the right thing.
”The story has sparked widespread admiration on social media, with many Nigerians praising Okoro’s integrity and calling for him to be publicly recognized for his commendable act.
