The US government has warned Green Card holders, with criminal histories risk losing their residency status and facing deportation.
This development comes on the heels of recent changes to U.S. visa policies introduced by the U.S. embassy.
The new measures primarily target individuals with a history of crimes related to fraud, dishonesty, or other morally questionable behavior.
In addition, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) risk losing their residency if they remain outside the United States for more than 12 months without proper reentry documentation or clear intent to maintain their U.S. residency—an absence that may be deemed as abandonment of status.
Further emphasizing the policy shift, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has cautioned that permanent residents with past criminal convictions could face mandatory detention when attempting to re-enter the country.
These developments underscore the U.S. government’s tougher stance on immigration enforcement and its commitment to upholding immigration laws.
