Northern Elders Mourn Buhari, Hail Him as a Symbol of Integrity and Patriotism

The Northern Elders Forum (NEF) has expressed deep sorrow over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, describing him as a selfless, incorruptible, and principled leader who served Nigeria with unwavering dedication.

In a heartfelt condolence message issued shortly after the announcement of Buhari’s passing, the Forum paid tribute to the late statesman’s enduring legacy, highlighting his simplicity, discipline, and patriotism.

“General Buhari was not only a soldier and statesman but a symbol of integrity and principled leadership. He was resolute in his belief in a unified, peaceful, and prosperous Nigeria,” the statement read.The NEF lauded Buhari’s tenure in both military and civilian roles, praising his commitment to accountability, national pride, and democratic values.

They noted that his leadership style was marked by honesty, national duty, and a strong belief in Nigeria’s potential.The statement also emphasized Buhari’s influence beyond Nigeria, describing him as a Pan-Africanist who defended Nigeria’s sovereignty and played a key role in strengthening democratic governance across the continent.

Recalling his political journey, the Forum acknowledged Buhari’s instrumental role in the formation of the All Progressives Congress (APC)—a strategic alliance with leaders like Bola Ahmed Tinubu that ultimately led to the defeat of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the historic 2015 general elections.

The Northern Elders concluded by praying for the peaceful repose of Buhari’s soul and extended their condolences to his family, the people of Katsina State, and the nation at large.
