In a decisive move to curb the rampant destruction of public facilities, the Imo State Government has inaugurated a special Anti-Vandalism Unit aimed at protecting state-owned properties from continued attacks by unknown vandals.
The initiative was unveiled by Nze Chinasa Nwaneri, Special Assistant to Governor Hope Uzodimma on Monitoring and Compliance, during a press briefing in Owerri.According to Nwaneri, the government has been deeply troubled by the increasing rate of vandalism of public infrastructure across the state, which he described as a serious threat to development.
“In response to this challenge, the Imo State Government is pleased to announce the inauguration of an Anti-Vandalism Unit, tasked with the responsibility of checkmating and stopping further acts of vandalism to Government properties,” he stated.
The new unit, which is expected to commence operations immediately, has been given a clear mandate to track, identify, and bring to justice those responsible for the sabotage of public assets.
Nwaneri also appealed to residents to support the taskforce by reporting any suspicious activities around government installations. He provided two hotlines — 09024053508 and 08139128766 — for citizens to call and report incidents in real time.
He assured the public that the Governor’s office would continue to monitor the situation closely and adopt all necessary measures to safeguard public investment and ensure infrastructural sustainability in the state.
