The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has firmly denied reports suggesting that the Speaker of the Osun State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon.
Adewale Egbedun, has been suspended.In a statement issued on Thursday, the Chairman of the Conference, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin, dismissed the viral report—originally published by an online platform on July 30, 2025—as “completely false, malicious, and intentionally misleading.”
Ogundoyin made it clear that no suspension had taken place and that no press conference was held in Ibadan or any other location to announce such a move.
“There was no such suspension. No press briefing occurred in Ibadan or elsewhere, and neither I nor any authorised representative of the Conference made such a statement,” he clarified.
He further affirmed that Rt. Hon. Egbedun remains “a respected and active member of the Conference who has not been found wanting in any capacity.
”The Conference criticised the media outlet behind the report, describing it as a “groundless fabrication devoid of journalistic integrity.”
Ogundoyin urged media professionals to verify information before publication, stressing that unverified reports can cause reputational harm and mislead the public.
“This serves as a reminder that press freedom must be exercised responsibly. The spread of fake news must be urgently addressed,” he added.
