Veteran rapper Jude Abaga, better known as M.I, has alleged that a significant portion of the Nigerian music industry’s funding comes from internet fraudsters.
Speaking on the So Nigerian podcast, M.I described the situation as a national embarrassment, stressing that it’s troubling for a country with such talented musicians to rely heavily on funding from both foreign sources and illicit activities.
“It’s an indictment on our country that so much of the money behind the music industry comes from the West and the fraud industry. It shows something is wrong. Hopefully, we can do better,” he said.
The rapper acknowledged that discussions around Yahoo Yahoo remain controversial because many artists depend on such funds.
He urged wealthy Nigerians to invest more in the creative sector, lamenting that, currently, young people are the primary financial supporters of other young talents in the industry.
