Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah has etched his name deeper into Premier League history by winning the PFA Men’s Player of the Year Award for 2025, becoming the first player to ever claim the honour three times.
The 33-year-old Egyptian forward played a pivotal role in Liverpool’s title-winning season, topping the league scoring chart with 29 goals and contributing 18 assists. His stellar campaign also earned him the Premier League Player of the Season and the Football Writers’ Association Footballer of the Year awards.
Reflecting on his rise from humble beginnings in Nagrig, Salah said:
“Of course, I wanted to be a football player, be famous, and provide for my family, but when you’re still in Egypt, you don’t think about the big stuff. As you grow, you begin to dream bigger and see the bigger picture.”
Salah beat out strong competition from teammate Alexis Mac Allister, Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes, Newcastle’s Alexander Isak, Chelsea’s Cole Palmer, and Arsenal’s Declan Rice.
Meanwhile, Aston Villa midfielder Morgan Rogers was named PFA Young Player of the Year. Since joining from Middlesbrough in February 2024, the 23-year-old has thrived under Unai Emery, scoring 14 goals in 54 games as Villa finished sixth in the league and enjoyed deep runs in Europe and the FA Cup.
Having also broken into the England senior team last year, Rogers expressed his ambitions:
“Later down the line, I want to be one of those incredible players people talk about. It’s a great recognition, but there’s still so much more to win.”
In other categories, James Trafford was honoured as Championship Player of the Year after recording 29 clean sheets with Burnley. Richard Kone (League One) and Michael Cheek (League Two) also picked up awards in the lower divisions.
Former England boss Gareth Southgate received the PFA Merit Award for his eight-year tenure with the national side, which included two European Championship finals and a World Cup semi-final.
The PFA Team of the Year was dominated by Liverpool and Arsenal stars. From Liverpool: Salah, Virgil van Dijk, Mac Allister, and Ryan Gravenberch. Arsenal were represented by Declan Rice, William Saliba, and Gabriel. Surprise inclusions were Nottingham Forest’s Chris Wood, goalkeeper Matz Sels, Newcastle’s Isak, and Bournemouth’s Milos Kerkez
