Veteran Kannywood actor, Alhaji Mato Yakubu Nata’ala, has appealed for financial assistance as he continues his fight against cancer, a condition he revealed he has been battling for nearly two years.
In a video currently circulating on social media, the actor — widely recognized for his role in the Dadin Kowa series on Arewa 24 — disclosed that he has been receiving treatment for about 19 months but the cost has drained his resources.
Nata’ala explained that although he has received support from friends, clerics, and colleagues in the film industry, his medical bills remain overwhelming.

“I want to thank everyone who has supported me, especially groups of clerics, the Arewa 24 team, and Kannywood Vanguard. I beg anyone I may have wronged to forgive me. I need help. I pay ₦250,000 every three weeks for an injection, and even the hospital bed costs ₦51,000. Please help me. May Allah help us all,” he pleaded.
Born in Yobe State, the veteran actor revealed in a 2021 interview with BBC Hausa that he began his acting career in 1986 and has written more scripts than he has appeared in.
He is married to three wives and is the father of ten children.
