Former Anambra State governor and Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 general election, Peter Obi, has once again raised concerns over the worsening insecurity in Nigeria.
In a post on his official X handle on Friday, Obi condemned the gruesome killing of worshippers in Katsina State, describing the incident as “devastating” and a tragic reflection of the country’s fragile security situation.
“The tragic news from Katsina has grown even more devastating, as the search continues with over 50 bodies now recovered,” he wrote.
The former governor lamented that Nigerian leaders have continued to treat such incidents as ordinary statistics rather than national emergencies, stressing that the sanctity of human life must be prioritized.
Obi described the killings as “a horrendous act that goes beyond an attack on innocent worshippers”, insisting that it was another painful reminder of Nigeria’s deteriorating security architecture.
He warned that unless the country urgently addresses the root causes of insecurity, Nigerians would continue to mourn needless losses.
His statement adds to growing calls from political leaders, security analysts, and civil society groups for government at all levels to adopt more effective measures to protect lives and property.
