Nigerian activist and social critic, Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman, has criticized those he believes failed to save Ruth Otabor, the younger sister of BBNaija winner Phyna, who died weeks after being involved in an accident with a Dangote truck.
Ruth’s death was officially announced on Sunday by Eko Solicitors & Advocates, representing the Otabor family. She had been undergoing treatment for severe injuries sustained in a road accident near Auchi Polytechnic, Edo State, involving a Dangote truck.
In a video reaction, Verydarkman accused President Bola Tinubu, the Dangote Group, and several influential Nigerians of neglecting Ruth when she most needed support for advanced medical care.
“Phyna’s sister has finally kpai. A lot of people are now saying RIP, but when we needed their voices to pressure Dangote to do the right thing, they kept quiet. She spent 19 days in the hospital, but many refused to post because it wouldn’t bring them engagement. You bunch are hypocrites. Nigeria has failed us. President Bola Tinubu, you have failed us all. And to Dangote Group, are you happy now? You had the time to take that girl abroad for treatment,” he lamented.
His comments came shortly after the Dangote Group issued a condolence statement, expressing sadness over Ruth’s passing. The company stressed that it had been covering all medical and financial expenses since the accident, adding that plans were already in place to fly her to India for advanced treatment once her doctors cleared her for travel. Sadly, Ruth passed away before the process was completed.
The tragedy has sparked fresh debates about corporate responsibility, government accountability, and the role of social media advocacy in moments of crisis.
