A major controversy has erupted within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kaduna State after a House of Representatives aspirant, Mahmud Sadisu Buba, was dragged before a court over allegations of age falsification and submission of questionable personal records.
Buba, popularly known in Kaduna political circles as “Abin Al’ajabi Zazzau,” is seeking to represent the Sabon Gari Federal Constituency under the platform of the APC.
The aspirant had recently attracted attention during the party’s screening exercise after confidently defending his eligibility before members of the APC screening committee.
During the exercise, he reportedly insisted that he met the constitutional age requirement needed to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives and also highlighted several community development projects and empowerment initiatives he claimed to have carried out within the constituency.
However, his political ambition has now come under intense scrutiny following a petition reportedly filed by political opponents challenging his eligibility to participate in the race.
According to the petitioners, official records allegedly linked to the aspirant contradict the age he publicly declared during the screening process.
The petition was reportedly accompanied by several documents, including copies of his international passport, National Identification Number (NIN) registration details, and a hospital birth certificate.
The documents allegedly state that Buba was born on August 27, 2010 a claim that would make him only 15 years old and constitutionally ineligible to contest for a seat in the National Assembly.
The development has triggered widespread reactions within political circles in Kaduna, with many expressing shock over the allegations surrounding the aspirant’s identity and eligibility.
The controversy reportedly deepened after claims emerged that Buba had only recently been enrolled as a junior secondary school student.
Sources alleged that until last year, he was a student at the Ahmadu Bello University Demonstration School before reportedly dropping out to pursue politics.
Adding to the drama, a family member was also said to have taken to social media to defend the authenticity of the leaked documents while condemning what was described as the exploitation of a minor for political purposes.
The dispute is expected to intensify ahead of the rescheduled APC primary election fixed for May 16, as party stakeholders continue to monitor the unfolding legal and political battle.
There are already speculations within the party that the controversy could eventually result in Buba’s disqualification from the contest if the allegations are proven to be true.
