A chieftain of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has expressed condolences to his former running mate, Datti Baba-Ahmed, following the death of his younger brother.
Obi conveyed his sympathy in a statement shared on his verified X account on Friday, where he described the loss as painful and prayed for strength for the bereaved family.
The former presidential candidate stated that he stood in solidarity with the Baba-Ahmed family during the difficult moment of mourning.
“I deeply mourn with my dear younger brother Datti Baba-Ahmed over the passing of his beloved younger brother,” Obi wrote.
“My thoughts and earnest prayers are with him and the entire Baba-Ahmed family in this moment of grief.”
Obi also prayed for Allah’s mercy and forgiveness for the deceased, asking God to grant him eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus.
“May Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus, and give the family the strength and patience to bear this painful loss, inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un,” he added.
The former Anambra State governor further prayed for comfort and peace for everyone affected by the loss.
“May Allah comfort all who mourn and reward patience with peace. Indeed, Allah is the Best of planners,” Obi stated.
The condolence message has since attracted reactions from supporters and political associates, many of whom joined in praying for the repose of the deceased and comfort for the Baba-Ahmed family.
