Lagos lawmaker and Nollywood actor Desmond Elliot has publicly apologised to the Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over any offence he may have caused during their political engagements.
Elliot made the apology during an appearance on TVC’s programme Your View on Friday, where he insisted that any misunderstanding between them was never intentional.
The lawmaker stated that he still holds Gbajabiamila in high regard and remains committed to unity within the party as well as development efforts in his constituency.
His comments come months after political tensions linked to the Lagos State House of Assembly leadership crisis, during which Gbajabiamila disclosed that he nearly lost his position at the Presidency over allegations connected to Elliot’s political activities.
According to Gbajabiamila, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu had confronted him over intelligence reports suggesting that Elliot was allegedly involved in moves surrounding the Assembly speakership tussle.
Gbajabiamila had denied the allegation at the time.
While speaking on the programme, Elliot described Gbajabiamila as a political mentor and senior figure whom he referred to as his “egbon.”
He explained that much of his political knowledge and experience came through the former Speaker of the House of Representatives.
“I’m not saying, oh, yes, media will come out, oh yes, Desmond begs again. Yes, because he’s my egbon. And I grew up learning everything I knew in politics through him,” Elliot said.
The actor-turned-politician added that misunderstandings and human errors are sometimes unavoidable in political relationships.
He maintained that his apology was rooted in respect and appreciation for the role Gbajabiamila played in shaping his political journey.
The development has since sparked reactions among political observers and supporters, especially given the earlier controversies surrounding the Lagos Assembly leadership crisis and internal dynamics within the ruling APC.
