Nigerian celebrity businessman and socialite Pascal Okechukwu, popularly known as Cubana Chief Priest, has reacted to his defeat in the All Progressives Congress primary election for the Orsu/Orlu/Oru East Federal Constituency seat in Imo State.
The nightlife entrepreneur, who also serves as the Imo State Coordinator of the City Boys Movement, had contested for the APC ticket in a bid to secure a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Speaking after the outcome of the primary election in a viral video circulating online, Cubana Chief Priest said he had no regrets about venturing into politics and participating in the contest.
However, he admitted feeling disappointed over what he described as misplaced trust in some elders within his community.
“I’m a hustler, and I didn’t regret trying to contest for a position. My only regret was trusting the elders in the community. I know how much I gave them, but only 14 people voted for me in the primary,” he said.
The businessman had earlier announced his political ambition this year, presenting himself as part of a new generation of Nigerians interested in cleaner, issue-driven politics and youth participation in governance.
Following news of his defeat, social media platforms were flooded with reactions, with some users mocking the celebrity socialite and suggesting he may have underestimated the realities and complexities of Nigerian grassroots politics.
Despite the criticism, some supporters defended him and praised his willingness to participate in the democratic process.
Among those who spoke in his support was social commentator Ossai Ovie Success, who criticised those ridiculing Cubana Chief Priest online.
“Why are people mocking Cubana Chief Priest? Not nice… it’s ok to try and try again,” Ossai wrote on Facebook.
“He lost an election and so what? I am disappointed,” he added.
The outcome of the APC primary has continued to generate discussions online, particularly around the growing interest of entertainers and social media personalities in active politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
