Veteran Nollywood actor Emeka Ike has officially declared his intention to contest for a seat in the House of Representatives ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The actor made the announcement in a video currently circulating on social media, revealing that he would be contesting for the Bwari/AMAC Federal Constituency in Abuja under the platform of the Nigeria Democratic Congress.
According to Emeka Ike, his decision to join politics is driven by a desire to contribute directly to national development and challenge what he described as the dominance of political elites.
“I’m running for the Federal House of Representatives under Bwari/AMAC Constituency in Abuja, and we want to make a federal statement,” he said.
Speaking further on the impact he hopes to make if elected into office, the Nollywood star said Nigerians deserve better governance and should stop depending on politicians who, according to him, have repeatedly failed the people.
“If I’ve made you happy as Nigerians, I want to step into the real thing right now, let’s block those boys wey think say na dem get power,” he stated.
“Let’s stand up and take power and rearrange our country, we don’t deserve to be begging.”
The actor also expressed disappointment with the attitude of many Nigerians toward the electoral process, urging citizens to take advantage of their voting rights rather than complain after elections.
“I’m not angry at our politicians anymore; they’ve clearly shown they don’t care about us. I’m angry at you, Nigerians. Go and collect your PVCs. That’s the only noise we need right now,” he added.
Emeka Ike’s political declaration has since generated reactions online, with supporters and critics debating the increasing involvement of entertainers in Nigerian politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
