Nigerian content creator Izzy Curious has stirred debate online after publicly criticising respected public figures Enoch Adeboye and Wole Soyinka over what he described as their silence on the worsening condition of the country under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
In a viral video circulating on social media, Izzy Curious claimed that both men were more vocal during the administration of former President Goodluck Jonathan despite, according to him, the country not being in as difficult a condition as it is now.
“You see these two men, these so-called highly respected elders, Pastor Adeboye and Wole Soyinka… These men had voices so loud when things were not this bad during Goodluck Jonathan’s era,” he said.
The content creator expressed disappointment over what he perceived as silence from influential voices at a time many Nigerians are complaining about hardship, insecurity and economic difficulties.
According to him, many young Nigerians once regarded the two respected figures as courageous voices who openly addressed national issues regardless of who was in power.
Izzy Curious further alleged that political interests and personal benefits may have influenced why some prominent Nigerians no longer speak strongly against government policies and the current state of the nation.
“Now they find it convenient to keep quiet when things are horribly bad under Tinubu’s regime. Because of what is entering their pockets,” he added.
His comments have since generated mixed reactions across social media platforms, with some Nigerians agreeing with his criticism while others defended Pastor Adeboye and Soyinka.
One social media user wrote, “People always become silent when their preferred candidate enters power.”
Another user countered the criticism, saying, “Wole Soyinka has always spoken when necessary, people should stop dragging him unnecessarily.”
