Former Chief of Staff to ex-Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu, Professor Anthony Agbazuere, has declared his readiness to work for the re-election of Governor Alex Otti.
Agbazuere made the declaration during a visit to Governor Otti at his residence in Nvosi, Isiala Ngwa South Local Government Area of Abia State on Wednesday.
Until his resignation, Agbazuere served as chairman of a strategic committee established in March 2026 by three former governors of the state to develop a blueprint aimed at securing total victory for the All Progressives Congress (APC) and promoting good governance in Abia State.
The committee was inaugurated by Abia North Senator Orji Uzor Kalu on behalf of former governors Theodore Orji and Okezie Ikpeazu.
However, in a dramatic political shift, Agbazuere officially moved to the Labour Party alongside his supporters during the visit to Governor Otti.
Speaking during the meeting, Agbazuere said the performance of Governor Otti’s administration convinced him to leave the APC and align with the Labour Party.
He praised the governor’s developmental strides and expressed confidence in Otti’s leadership ahead of the next election cycle.
Responding to the development, Governor Otti welcomed the new members into the Labour Party and assured them that they would not face discrimination from existing party loyalists.
The governor also stated that his administration would continue to intensify developmental projects across the state.
Otti further advised Agbazuere and his supporters to formally complete their registration process within the Labour Party structure.
The defection is expected to further reshape political alignments in Abia State as preparations for future elections gradually intensify.
