Media aide to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, Lere Olayinka, has reacted strongly to the decision of Siminalayi Fubara to withdraw from the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary in Rivers State.
Governor Fubara had on Wednesday night announced his withdrawal from the APC governorship race, stating that his decision was taken in the interest of peace and stability in the state.
The governor insisted that stepping aside was not an act of weakness, fear or surrender.
Reacting through a series of posts on Facebook, Olayinka claimed that Fubara had become politically isolated within the state.
According to him, the Rivers governor currently has no loyal candidates contesting for Senate, House of Representatives or State Assembly seats.
He also alleged that no local government chairman or councillor in the state remains aligned with Fubara politically, suggesting that Wike still controls the dominant political structure in Rivers State.
“Totally and completely isolated politically. Yet, he is still saying he didn’t step aside out of weakness, fear or surrender,” Olayinka wrote.
The presidential aide’s ally further intensified the political drama by resurfacing an old video clip allegedly showing Fubara making derogatory remarks about Wike.
In the video, Fubara was reportedly heard comparing Wike’s outbursts to the barking of a dog during the height of the political crisis between both camps.
The renewed exchange highlights the continuing political tension between Governor Fubara and his predecessor, Wike, despite several reconciliation efforts and peace meetings held in recent months.
Their prolonged political feud has continued to shape the power struggle within Rivers State politics ahead of the 2027 elections.
