Veteran Nigerian entertainer, Charles Oputa, popularly known as CharleyBoy or Area Fada, has reacted to the mixed reactions that followed his decision to publicly celebrate his daughter’s engagement to her female partner.
The entertainer had earlier shared a video from the engagement ceremony of his first daughter, Adaeze, and her partner on social media.
In the post, CharleyBoy referred to his daughter’s partner as her “husband” while asking his followers to wish the couple well.
His post subsequently generated a wide range of reactions from social media users, with some people questioning whether the person standing beside his daughter was a man or a woman.
CharleyBoy later confirmed that his daughter’s partner is a woman.
While some social media users commended the veteran entertainer for publicly supporting and accepting his daughter, others criticised him over his decision to celebrate the relationship.
Amid the divided reactions, one of CharleyBoy’s supporters defended his position, arguing that parents may find it difficult to accept some of the decisions made by their children but that love should allow them to respect those decisions.
The supporter wrote:
“It’s hard as a parent to watch the kind of decisions our children makes.. but it’s love that allows parents to respect their children’s decisions…”
CharleyBoy appeared to agree with the sentiment, responding to the comment with:
“True dat.”
