Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has renewed his criticism of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) presidential candidate and former governor of the state, Peter Obi.
Soludo made the remarks while speaking at a political gathering in Anambra on Saturday, September 19, where he questioned Obi’s contributions to the Igbo people since his entry into politics.
Speaking in Igbo, the governor also criticised what he described as attempts by politicians to appeal to people’s emotions during election periods.
“Ask him, since he has been in politics, what has he brought for the Igbos? Look at the bad state and erosion in Anambra for a long time. Since he started politics, what has he done about it?” Soludo said.
He continued:
“Then, when it is time for election, you come and start playing with our emotions and still want us to waste our votes on you and remain where we are. It won’t happen again. 2027 will be different. We Igbos will get our share this time around by voting right.”
Soludo’s latest comments come amid an ongoing political dispute between him and Obi, particularly over the former governor’s record in Anambra and claims concerning the state’s financial obligations.
The Anambra State Government has recently released figures relating to debts it says were incurred during previous administrations, including Obi’s tenure. Obi has rejected the debt claims and challenged the state government to provide evidence supporting them.
The governor has also previously urged voters in the South-East to adopt a different political approach ahead of the 2027 general election, while publicly backing President Bola Tinubu.
The latest exchange adds to the growing political disagreement between the two former Anambra governors as preparations for the 2027 presidential election intensify.
