Naira Depreciates Against USD Across FX Markets

The naira depreciated against the US dollar across the foreign exchange markets on Friday, ending the week on a weaker note.

Gists9ja reports that data from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) showed that the naira closed at ₦1,329.51 per dollar at the official foreign exchange market on Friday.

This represents a decline of ₦0.84 from the ₦1,328.67 recorded against the dollar on Thursday.

At the parallel market, the naira also weakened, with the US dollar trading at ₦1,390 on Friday, compared with ₦1,385 recorded on Thursday.

Despite Friday’s decline, the naira recorded a weekly gain at the official market.

On a week-on-week basis, the local currency appreciated by ₦1.68 per dollar at the official foreign exchange market.

The latest movement came as Nigeria’s external reserves continued their upward trajectory.

According to CBN data, the country’s external reserves increased to $54.86 billion as of September 24, 2026.

The rise in external reserves comes amid continued movements in the foreign exchange market, with the naira recording mixed performance across the official and parallel markets during the week.
