Former US President Barack Obama has said he believes the world could be better governed if women were given the opportunity to lead governments across the world for two years.
Obama made the remark while discussing the importance of creating opportunities for younger generations and new voices to take on leadership roles and contribute to shaping society.
Reflecting on his time in office, the former president said he had sometimes imagined what the world would look like if women were placed in charge of governments globally for a limited period.
“Even when I was President, I sometimes fantasized about if you put women in charge of every government for like two years, and then just kind of saw, ‘All right, how are things going?’” Obama said.
He clarified that such an arrangement would not necessarily create a perfect world but expressed confidence that it could result in improvements.
“I have a strong belief that things wouldn’t be perfect, but they’d be better. I’m confident about that. I really do,” he added.
Obama’s comments have drawn attention to the broader debate over gender representation in political leadership and the role of younger generations and new perspectives in governance.
