Kaduna Cleric, Wife and Daughter Regain Freedom After Five Months in Captivity, Son Dies

A Kaduna-based cleric, Reverend Andrew Duniya, his wife, Jemimah Andrew, and their daughter have regained their freedom after spending five months in captivity following their abduction by suspected bandits in Kaduna State.

However, the family’s return has been overshadowed by tragedy, as their son reportedly died while in captivity.

The family members were abducted on Sunday, April 26, 2026, when armed men invaded Gidan Ali community in Ikulu Chiefdom, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State.

The attackers reportedly took the cleric, his wife and their children away during the raid, leaving the family and members of their community deeply concerned about their safety.

Following the abduction, the kidnappers allegedly demanded a ransom of ₦270 million for the family’s release.

After months of uncertainty, Reverend Duniya, his wife and their daughter have now returned home, bringing an end to their ordeal in captivity.

A journalist confirmed their release on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, after visiting the family at their residence.

Despite the relief that accompanied the return of the surviving family members, the reported death of their son has cast a shadow over the development, turning what should have been a moment of celebration into a period of mourning.

The circumstances surrounding the son’s death have not been disclosed. It also remains unclear whether any ransom was paid or how the surviving family members secured their release.

The incident adds to concerns over persistent kidnappings in parts of Kaduna State, where families and communities have continued to face threats from armed groups.
