“I Didn’t Find Jesus In A Church. I Found Him In The Quran” – Ex-Muslim

An ex-Muslim man identified as Shahriq Khan has shared how his study of a Quranic verse led him to question his former faith and begin a journey towards Christianity.

In a post circulating online, Khan recounted how Surah 5:32 was once his favourite Quranic passage because of its message about the value of human life.

He explained that his perspective changed after he examined the verse more closely and discovered similarities between its wording and an ancient Jewish teaching.

Ex-Muslim speaks about favourite Quranic verse

According to Khan, he frequently quoted Surah 5:32 during debates and discussions about Islam and peace because he considered its message powerful.

The verse states that killing one person is comparable to killing all of humanity, while saving a life is comparable to saving all of humanity.

However, Khan said he became curious about the passage after noticing that it referred to a decree given to the Children of Israel rather than directly presenting the statement as a new revelation to Prophet Muhammad.

Khan said his further research led him to Mishnah Sanhedrin 4:5, a Jewish text containing a teaching about the creation of humanity and the story of Cain and Abel.

The passage explains the value of a single human life by comparing the destruction of one person to the destruction of an entire world.

He argued that the similarity between the Jewish teaching and the Quranic passage raised questions about the origins of the verse.

Khan said the discovery prompted him to reconsider his understanding of the Quran and its claim to divine revelation.

He argued that the similarities raised questions about whether the Quranic passage drew from an earlier Jewish tradition.

Khan presented two possible explanations in his account: that the Quran incorporated an existing rabbinic teaching or that the wording reached Arabia through Jewish teachers and was subsequently repeated.

However, the similarities between the texts alone do not establish the precise route through which the tradition developed or entered the Quran.

Shahriq Khan cites Bible verse in his testimony

Khan also referred to Jeremiah 23:30 in the Bible, a passage in which God condemns prophets accused of stealing words from one another.

He said the biblical passage became significant to him as he continued examining the relationship between religious texts.

Ex-Muslim declares faith in Jesus Christ

Khan concluded his testimony by describing his decision to embrace Christianity as a personal spiritual turning point.

He said his experience changed his understanding of the Quran and strengthened his belief in Jesus Christ.

“I found the Living Word. PRAISE MY KING JESUS CHRIST, I’M FREE!” he declared.
