A Kano State High Court has sentenced two men, Aliyu Adamu and Mubarak Abdussalam, to death by hanging for the murder of Alhaji Dahiru Musa, popularly known as Baba Senior.
A third defendant, Sadik Sanusi, was sentenced to seven years’ imprisonment over his involvement in the crime.
The deceased, a resident of Yankusa, was reportedly murdered by the defendants in an attempt to take possession of his landed property.
Aliyu Adamu, who was said to be a close associate and childhood friend of the victim, reportedly confessed to committing the crime with the intention of taking over the deceased’s land, as he was already in possession of the property documents.
The Kano State Government had charged the three defendants with criminal conspiracy, murder and concealing a crime.
Delivering judgment, Justice Fatima Adamu of Court 18, Miller Road, held that the prosecution, led by Barrister Salisu Muhammad Tahir, had presented sufficient evidence to establish the charges against the defendants.
The court found Aliyu and Mubarak guilty of murdering Dahiru by stabbing him with a knife.
They were also found guilty of conspiring with Sadik Sanusi, who allegedly used his commercial tricycle to transport them to the scene of the crime, where the victim’s body was later burnt.
According to the prosecution, the defendants carried out the murder in an attempt to gain control of the deceased’s land ownership documents.
