Army Rewards Soldier N500,000 For Rejecting Kidnap Suspect’s Bribe

A Nigerian Army personnel, Private Utim Terwase, has received a ₦500,000 reward for rejecting an alleged bribe offered by a suspected notorious kidnapper and successfully apprehending him.

The reward was presented to Terwase by the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 3 Division and Commander of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP), Major General Maxwell Dangana.

Reports indicate that Terwase, who is currently serving under Operation Enduring Peace, arrested the suspect on September 5, 2026, following an attempted escape.

Despite allegedly being offered money in exchange for the suspect’s release, the soldier reportedly rejected the bribe and ensured that the suspect remained in custody.

Speaking on the development, Dangana said the ₦500,000 cash reward was in recognition of Terwase’s honesty, discipline and commitment to his responsibilities.

The GOC reportedly explained that the amount presented to the soldier was equivalent to the bribe he had rejected.

The recognition highlights the Nigerian Army’s emphasis on integrity, professionalism and accountability among its personnel.
