The Labour Party (LP) candidate for president, Mr Peter Obi, said yesterday that he would turn the Sambisa Forest in the Northeast into a huge farmland that could help the economy of the country.
Mr Obi said this at the party’s presidential rally in Abakaliki at the Pa Ngele Oruta Township Stadium.
Obi, who was there with his wife, Margret, and the head of his party, Mr Julius Abure, said that insecurity and corruption were the main reasons the country wasn’t developing. He promised to do something about them right away.
He said that the Southeast would be moved to become the country’s manufacturing hub, and Ebonyi would be helped to reach its full rice-growing potential.
Mr Obi says that the Akanu Ibiam International Airport will be built to international standards and serve as a hub for people going to and from the Southeast.
He told his supporters that the next election was a chance to take their country back from unscrupulous politicians whose way of running things had led to more crime, corruption, and joblessness.
It was reported that supporters of other political parties, like the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), were at the rally.
Mr Franklin Onwe, a member of the APC, said that Mr Peter Obi represents the hopes and interests of the masses. He also said that while he supports the APC candidates in the state, he backs the Labour Party presidential candidate.
