Unknown gunmen attack security checkpoint in Enugu, killing many, others injured

Gunmen, again, attacked a joint security checkpoint, along the Obeagu-Amodu road, Enugu South Council of Enugu state, yesterday.

Gists9ja gathered that the gunmen stormed the location manned by policemen and soldiers at about 7:25 a.m. in two Lexus Jeeps and a Toyota Sienna bus and began to shoot at the security officials.

Residents nearby were said to have fled to safety, as they exchanged bullets with officials. Number of casualties from the incident is still unknown, but unconfirmed reports stated that some security officials were killed while others were injured.

The Police Public Relations Officer for Enugu Police Command, Daniel Ndukwe, could not speak on the matter as at press time.

Ndukwe neither picked his phone calls nor responded to text messages. Recall that several of attacks have been carried out on the area, which prompted the joint security checkpoint by the army and police.

Some months ago, gunmen had invaded the checkpoint and killed several police officers.
