It’s no longer news that the Peoples Democratic Party has been faced with an internal crisis since Atiku Abubakar emerged as the presidential candidate of the party.
It would be recalled that as a result of the crisis, some eminent members of the party including serving governors belonging to the same camp as Rivers State governor, Nyesom Wike pulled out of the presidential campaign council of Atiku Abubakar several weeks ago saying they would only rescind their decision if the national chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu resigns and a Southerner replaces him.
Speaking about the crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party in a recent interview, former governor of Cross River state, Donald Duke wondered how Atiku Abubakar would be received in Rivers state and Cross River state if he goes there to campaign amid the crisis rocking the party.
Hear him, “how do you go to Rivers State and campaign knowing fully well that no one from the party, neither the party’s gubernatorial candidate will be there to receive you? If Atiku Abubakar for instance should go to Cross River to campaign, who’s going to be on the podium? So, you’re going to have a very hollow campaign”
