Former Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Timipre Sylva, has hailed the judgment of the Court of Appeal that reinstated him as the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the upcoming Bayelsa election.
The Appeal Court, on Tuesday, upheld Sylva’s appeal against the earlier High Court order which sacked him from the race, stating that the lower court was wrong in its ruling.
Reacting to the development in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Tuesday night, Sylva said the appeal court verdict is a big relief to him and his party.
The APC governorship candidate in Bayelsa state asserted that the judiciary has vindicated itself with the judgment, saying that the earlier ruling was confusing.
He said: “I just feel relieved because it was confusing when that judgment came, but I feel very relieved today.
“Today, I think the judiciary has vindicated itself.”
Speaking further, Sylva stated that what played out in 2020, when the APC missed out on the governorship poll, was almost about to be repeated if not for the appeal court verdict.
“That was actually becoming very disturbing. It was becoming something we saw as a pattern but this has rested that,” he added.
The former minister also accused the PDP of violence and being jittery ahead of the November 11 governorship election.
“The PDP is afraid of this election very clearly.“They have not done so well and they know. From even the campaigns, everybody can see very clearly. If you go to Bayelsa, it is almost clear to everyone that the election has been won by APC,” he added.
