Okuama: Before That Shooting, An Old Woman Came Out To Make Some Incantations -- Speedboat Driver

A driver of one of the speedboats that conveyed the military personnel to Gbaregolor community waterside for the March 14 has giving an account of the circumstances that led to the death of the soldiers, according to Vanguard.

Narrating his account, the driver said while he and the other boat drivers were waiting for the soldiers to return from community, an old woman in white attire came to the riverside to perform some rituals after which an old man in similar attire came out to do the same rituals.

According to him, it was not long after that the soldiers returned dragging the chairman of Okuama community along with them. As the soldiers made to force the chairman to board their boat, bullets suddenly started flying from all directions towards them. 

The driver added that not only did his speedboat and those of his colleagues refuse to start at that instance but the soldier’s guns also failed to fire as they attempted to counter the attackers. 

The soldiers, according to him, sustained serious gunshot injuries from the attack.

Fortunately, one of the boat drivers was able to start his boat later. The wounded soldiers jumped in and the boat sped off. The driver, who said he had dived into the water before then, joined his colleague’s speedboat to flee to safety.

The driver narrated in his words: “Before that incident (shooting), while waiting at the waterfront, an old woman in pure white attire came out of the community and stared at us, making some form of incantation, and went back to the community. Within a few minutes, an old man with similar attire came to the same spot, gazed at us, and performed the same way as the old woman.

“After this scenario, the commander and his men started coming to the shore with the community chairman. 

“As bullets started coming, the soldiers tried to respond, but none of their guns answered, and immediately, I dived into the river.”
