The Enugu Transparency Watch and the Nigeria Youth Advocacy For Good Governance Initiative (NYAGGI) Enugu state has petitioned the Economic and Financial Crime Commission EFCC Enugu Zonal command over an alleged diversion of public funds into a private property procurement and collection of over 170 million naira belonging to other 17 Local government as ALGON fund
In a letter signed by both the organizations and EFCC as obtained by our newsmen yesterday, the letter titled: REQUEST FOR INVESTIGATION AND QUESTIONING, the organization requested that the Nigeria anti-graft agency should as a matter of urgency invite and investigate Mr. Sydney Okechukwu Edeh who is the immediate past chairman of Nkanu East for alleged fraud and corruption, according to the petition Mr. Edeh who failed to declare his assets before gotten elected into the office of chairman Nkanu East in 2022 which later become that ALGON chairman has purchased properties worth over 500 million nairas in New heaven Enugu and beyond which is more than his salary,the group also alleged that the ex-council boss has been collecting the sum of 1,500,000 from the 17 Local Government Areas of the state as ALGON money even when he is no longer the chairman of Local government
The organization also added that all efforts made by the members of civil societies to meet and discuss with Mr. Sydney in line with the Freedom of Information Act 2011 and open partnership as subscribed by Enugu state was unsuccessful as he refused to grant them an audience
They urged the Economic and Financial Crime Commission and other sister organizations to look down into the local government Areas and grassroots to curb corruption properly
