The Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, Chijioke Ihunwo, has issued a caution to President Bola Tinubu regarding the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike.
Ihunwo’s warning came during an interaction with journalists in his office on Thursday, November 14.
According to Ihunwo, Wike has ambitions to run for the presidency in 2027. He advised the president to be cautious in his dealings with Wike, suggesting that the minister has a hidden agenda. Ihunwo elaborated, saying, “Wike’s plan is to convince the president that he wants to remain within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and help maintain its structure, while secretly plotting to position himself for a presidential bid.”
Ihunwo further explained that Wike’s tactics in the past, such as his dealings with former governor Rotimi Amaechi, demonstrate that he is willing to manipulate situations to further his own political ambitions. “This is the style Wike has employed before, and there’s every possibility that he could use the same strategy with anyone, including the president,” Ihunwo cautioned.
The local government chairman urged President Tinubu to remain vigilant and not fall prey to Wike’s alleged political maneuvering. He emphasized the need for the president to be mindful of Wike’s long-term objectives, which could involve positioning himself as a future presidential contender.
