Your Threats Are Baseless’ - Rivers Group Issues Strong Warning to Asari Dokubo Over Statements Against Tinubu

The Rivers Restoration Movement (RRM) has issued a stern warning to former Niger Delta militant leader, Alhaji Mujahid Asari-Dokubo, urging him to refrain from making derogatory remarks about President Bola Ahmed Tinubu regarding the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State.

Recently, Asari-Dokubo launched into a scathing criticism of President Tinubu, accusing him of backing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Minister, Nyesom Wike, in a purported effort to undermine Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara. Asari-Dokubo went further, suggesting ominously that “something will happen” if Governor Fubara is allowed to lead without outside interference.

In a strong rebuttal, RRM Director-General Johnson Georgewill and Secretary Mrs. Sarima Akpata released a statement on Friday condemning Asari-Dokubo’s comments. They described his remarks as groundless, provocative, and an attempt to mislead the public on President Tinubu’s intentions.

“RRM, representing the people of Rivers State, rejects Chief Asari’s direct insults and baseless accusations against President Tinubu. His claims that the President is supporting the FCT Minister in a plot to destabilize Rivers State are unfounded,” the statement said.

The group emphasized that President Tinubu is a staunch advocate of democracy and the rule of law, and that he would never endorse actions that promote lawlessness or injustice. The RRM also assured Nigerians that any threats made by Asari-Dokubo, including his suggestion that there will be repercussions if the Rivers governor continues without interference, are empty and hold no significance in a constitutional democracy.

“As a responsible organization, we call on Chief Asari to redirect his energies toward constructive engagement, encouraging respect for the rule of law, rather than resorting to baseless threats or insinuations. Rivers State, like any democratic society, will not tolerate lawlessness or intimidation from any individual,” the statement concluded.
