Lagos Govt Addresses Viral Video of Sanwo-Olu’s Heated Exchange with Young Lady

Sanwo-Olu’s Aide Addresses Viral Video, Confirms Incident Dates Back to 2019

The Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat, has clarified the context surrounding a viral video showing the governor in a heated exchange with a young woman. Gawat explained that the footage, currently trending on social media, is not recent and dates back to January 28, 2019.

In a statement posted on his X handle, Gawat revealed that the incident took place during a public event organized by Niteshift Coliseum in Opebi, Lagos, when Sanwo-Olu was still a governorship aspirant.

According to Gawat, the video captures a moment during a question-and-answer session where attendees were given the opportunity to engage with Sanwo-Olu directly. A young woman, while asking her question, reportedly raised her voice and behaved in a manner perceived as rude, prompting the exchange.

Addressing the circulating rumors, Gawat wrote:

Trending Old Video: This encounter happened on January 28, 2019, when Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu was aspiring to become the Governor of Lagos State. A young woman stood up to ask a question, just like others did. However, she started being rude and raising her voice.

“No DSS or police officers were involved here. The event was organized by Niteshift Coliseum, Opebi. The session continued peacefully afterward. #SayNoToFakeNews.”
