Gov Okpebholo Orders Reinstatement of Ambrose Alli University Staff Dismissed by Obaseki's Administration

Edo State Governor Approves Reinstatement of Ambrose Alli University Staff Dismissed by Previous Administration

Edo State Governor, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate reinstatement of staff members at Ambrose Alli University (AAU), Ekpoma, who were dismissed in March 2023 by the defunct Special Intervention Team (S.I.T.) during the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.

The decision was publicly announced on December 2, 2024, through a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Umar Musa Ikhilor. The reinstatement follows the unjust termination of these staff members, who were part of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), after they had protested against the non-payment of salaries and other outstanding entitlements.

A Commitment to Justice and Fairness

The affected staff members had been dismissed after their protests demanding payment of salaries and benefits, which had gone unpaid under the previous administration. Governor Okpebholo’s administration has emphasized its dedication to justice, fairness, and the rule of law, stating that any form of injustice will be rectified.

The statement read: “It is to be announced for the information of the general public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the immediate reinstatement of staff of Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma, who were unlawfully disengaged from the service of the institution by the defunct Special Intervention Team (S.I.T.) in March 2023 under the administration of former Governor Godwin Obaseki.”

“This reinstatement is therefore to demonstrate His Excellency’s avowed commitment and adherence to the rule of law in governance at all times,” the statement added.

A Step Toward Reconciliation and Equity

This decision marks a significant step towards restoring fairness to those affected by the previous administration’s actions. The reinstated staff are expected to resume their roles at the university, and the move is seen as a sign of the Okpebholo government’s commitment to resolving grievances and ensuring that the rights of workers and citizens are respected.

The Governor’s decision has been welcomed by many, as it aligns with his promise to prioritize justice and equity throughout his tenure.
